Principal's Message

Dear Parents, Guardians and Students,

Welcome to Madison School.

Madison School is a part of the Twin Rivers Unified School District.  We serve the North Highlands area from Madison and College Oak to Harrison and Jackson.  Our population come from some homes and many apartment complexes.  About half of our students are bussed to school everyday.

This year Madison has 19 teachers, 15 Kdg- 6th grade, 1 preschool, 1 Pre-Kdg., 2 SDC (special education), 1 RSP,and 1 Leaning Coach.  Our office is manned by Cindi Couch and Colleen Smith.  We have a Health Assistant 4 mornings a week and a nurse one day a week.  We have a full time library clerk and wonderful Kitchen staff of 3.  Mr. Mark and Mr. Ryan take care of our grounds.

Currently we have  368  students, that is down from our usual 450.  Currently we have three empty classrooms.
Madison has an after school program run by the Boys and Girls Club of America.  We can accommodate 75 students from 1st - 6th grade.

Here at Madison we feel our main responsibility is to make sure every student is reading on grade level and achieving Proficiency in math.  We also work on manners and character education on a daily basis.
Some of our extra programs include after school sports, Ed2Net a math tutoring program and Smart Kids a reading tutoring program.

Every year we work very hard to prepare our students for the STAR state test.  Grades 2-6 take this test.  Presently our API (state score) is 738, our goal is 800.  We will be there very soon.   Our federal score is built around Proficiency in math and language arts.  These scores are broken down by ethnic sub-group. Presently our African American and English Learners are not at proficiency.  We are working very hard to help these students achieve proficiency.   This year we went up 33 points in math.

Please feel free to come visit our school at anytime.  We love when parents participate and help out in the classrooms.  This year we have also had a Dad's and Kids night, Mom's and Son's and in two weeks a Dad's and Daughters night.  This has been an excellent time for families to get to know us at school while enjoying a night out with their children.
We look forward to seeing you at Madison School.   If you have any questions, please call (916) 566-1900 or email me at jana.fields@twinriversusd.org

Sincerely,
Jana L. Fields
